Playing at the Edinburgh Festival is an even worse offence. A bunch of aristocrats and their friends in the House of Lords can overrule the people's parliament. The House of Lords, what an evil institution. It exists only to deny the common people power. I am putting a death threat on anyone who plays a concert in the UK, especially if it is around the time of the Queen's Birthday. Why did the EU let Britain join, Britain is not even a democracy.

The House of Lords are a bunch of George Bush loving squirrels. Boycott the Edinburgh Festival until the House of Lords is elected democratically or Scotland becomes independent.

Grrrr, to all evil people, so there! That includes you, P. Diddy, you shout too much, you must die!

Interesting and fair point. The only things I'd say-not in McCartney's defence, mind, just as context-are that I don't think it's quite comparable to the Sun City thing, because there that was an actual break of the cultural embargo, and so was much more symbolic than McCartney's actions. Also, with the Morrissey/Iran thing, I can see where he's coming from; it too is a symbolic gesture against the country being painted as a rogue, terrorist state (which it isn't). Incidentally, there's a law in the process of being passed through parliament in Iran which would outlaw stoning as a punishment. Still though, its a country in which it is illegal to be gay, which is obviously wank.

I suppose you could also argue, however, that the greater criminal, greater than Israel or Iran, is the USA. It continues to support Israeli policy more-or-less unconditionally, has trade embargoes on countries like Cuba and (formerly) Iraq (the latter of which is reckoned to have caused the death of a million people), ignores the UN when it protests its wars (which, under the laws used at Nuremburg, are illegal), seems quite happy to unbalance elections in Latin America by giving parties huge amounts of funding if they oppose left-wing leaders, is quite happy to declare itself allies with Saudi Arabia (which has roughly the same number of executions per year as Iran, and which cuts people's hands off as punishment for theivery) and tortures and holds enemy combatents without trial. I guess my point (as opposed to my rambling rant) is that if playing a gig in Israel or Iran is bad because of the policies of that country, then surely playing a gig in the US is also bad, because that country, even if it's policies aren't worse per se (a debateable point of course), is one which has vastly more of an effect on the rest of the world, and that effect is very often a very negative one.

The Frog Chorus sounded good to my 5 year old ears at the time, and it was a song for a children's film wasn't it? So don't diss it!
