Top 10 Singles of 2006

Filed under: Features,Single Reviews — by Free Edinburgh Podcast @ 8:10 pm

10. Mika – Grace Kelly

Scissor Sisters fronted by Freddi Mercury with a touch of T-Rex for good measure?  Brilliance.  That version on You Tube isn’t as hot as the full disco glam one.  Find it and buy it.

His My Space has the disco version to stream. Brilliance.

9. Luke Haines – Off My Rocker At The Art School Bop

The Auteurs were a wonderful, wonderful band and Luke doesn’t disappoint with this ‘cool as’ solo effort.

8. The Feeling – Love It When You Call

Could have really picked any of the singles released this year by this unashamedly poptacular band.  Apart from Sewn.  That had a bit of a dull intro.  Yeah.

7. Air Traffic – Just Abuse Me

Fantastic!!!

6. Arctic Monkeys- When the Sun Goes Down

Such a witty articulation of such a morose subject.

5. Little Man Tate – What? What You Got?

Another band with a delectable selection of singles released this year.  All are equally awesome.  I just like the video for this one.

4. Peter, Bjorn and John – Young Folks

Swedophile.

3. Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family – The Mourners of St Paul’s

Yeah, it’s about his dad’s death.  How can you not like it?

2. The Little Ones – Lovers Who Uncover

That’s a Myspace link not a You Tube one as it aint on You Tube.  More is the pity.  It was free from their website a few months ago.  People should have got it then.

1. Sufjan Stevens – The Majesty Snowbird

I’ve already raved about this before.  Exquisite.
